After the varicose veins are treated the foam causes an inflammatory response so that the veins will become quite hard and lumpy and bruised. That effect can carry on for a couple of weeks or in some cases a month or so afterwards.  That inflammatory process is all part of the treatment process. So phlebitis is a normal part of the treatment. A thrombosis which goes into the deep veins is a definite complication. It’s that deep vein thrombosis which is actually very rare and certainly less than 1%, we quote about 0.4% as that risk which is very low. That risk can be reduced even further by keeping mobile and active after the varicose vein treatment.
